On macOS, Photoshop only runs in 64-bit mode. Not many scanner manufacturers have released 64-bit versions of their scanner drivers, so you may not be able to use TWAIN.
I tried this Canon scan utility with my LiDE 25 and it could not find my LiDE 25. I have been using VueScan for 2 1/2 months and it works very good for me.

powerpc-apple-darwin8-gcc-4.0.1: unrecognized option '-shared'
Easy to use, lots of presets, plus lots of manual adjustments. Everything you can think to do, you can find in the menus or documentation. It does everything you wish scanner software would do. Epson software has improved over the last 7 years, but still can't equal Vuescan.
Hopefully you were able to return the newer model you mentioned purchasing in your original post.
